DET Orissa 2026 Counselling Process

DET Orissa 2026 Counselling

The Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET), Odisha, conducts the state-level diploma admission process under the Student Academic Management System (SAMS) portal. Crucially, there is no separate DET Odisha written entrance exam. Instead, admissions are granted strictly based on merit lists compiled from candidates' qualifying examination marks (10th class for the 1st-year Diploma and 12th/ITI for Lateral Entry). For the 2026-27 academic session, the online Common Application Form (CAF) window opened on April 1, 2026, with registration closing in mid-June, followed by seat allotment updates running through July and August.

DET Odisha 2026 Counselling Schedule

The e-counselling schedule varies depending on whether you are applying for the 1st Semester (Fresh 10th-pass entry) or the 3rd Semester (Lateral Entry for 12th/ITI-pass entry).

FAQs

Q1: I forgot to take the DET Odisha entrance exam. Can I still apply for counseling?

A: Yes! There is no separate entrance exam for Odisha Diploma admissions. Admission is entirely based on the marks you secured in your 10th-grade board exams (or 12th/ITI for lateral entry).

Q2: What is the minimum age criterion to join a 1st-year Diploma course in Odisha?

A: For regular 1st-year engineering or vocational diploma paths, you must be at least 14 years old as of July 1, 2026. There is no upper or maximum age bar to apply.

Q3: Can out-of-state candidates apply for seats in Odisha Government Polytechnics?

A: The vast majority of seats are reserved for native Odisha students. Out-of-state candidates are eligible to apply but are restricted to specific institutional quotas, primarily in private polytechnic institutions or under designated non-resident seats.

Q4: What happens if I miss out on a seat during the 1st and final rounds of allocation?

A: If seats remain vacant after the main counseling phases, DTET Odisha activates the SPOT Admission Round. You must fill a fresh online SPOT CAF and report directly to the respective polytechnics displaying vacancies.

Q5: If I choose the 'Float' option, will I lose my current allocated seat?

A: No. The float option protects your current seat allocation while letting the system check if you qualify for a higher preferred choice in the subsequent list. You only lose the initial seat if a better option matching your high preference is successfully assigned.
