The eligibility criteria for HP CET 2026 are set by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) to ensure that only qualified candidates can appear for the entrance exam. For undergraduate programs like B.Tech and B.Pharm and for post graduate programs like MBA and MCA.

For undergraduate programs like B.Tech and B.Pharm

  • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 (or equivalent) examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one additional subject such as Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology.
  • A minimum aggregate of 45% marks is required for general category candidates, while reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) need at least 40% marks.
  • Students appearing for their Class 12 exams in 2026 are also eligible to apply provisionally.
  • The minimum age limit is 17 years, and there is no upper age restriction.

For MBA/MCA: Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years duration with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories).

Q1. What are the basic eligibility requirements for HP CET 2026?

Ans. Candidates must have passed Class 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, and one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a technical/vocational subject for B.Tech/B.Pharm. For MBA/MCA, a bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) is required.

Q2. Can students appearing in Class 12 apply?

Ans. Yes, students appearing for their Class 12 board exams in 2026 can apply provisionally, but they must submit proof of passing before the counselling /admission process.

Q3. What is the minimum percentage required?

Ans. General category: 45% aggregate marks in qualifying exam (10+2 for UG, bachelor’s degree for PG). Reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS): 40% aggregate marks for UG, 45% for PG.

Q4. Are there reservations for specific categories?

Ans. Yes, reservations are available for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD, and women as per government norms. State quota candidates (Himachal Pradesh domicile) also get preference.

Q5. Is there a limit on the number of attempts?

Ans. No, candidates can appear for HP CET as many times as they want, provided they meet the eligibility criteria each time.
