KERALA SET 2026 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The Kerala State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026 is a mandatory qualification exam for candidates aspiring to become Higher Secondary School Teachers and Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE) teachers in Kerala. The eligibility criteria set by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Kerala, are as follows:

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks or its equivalent grade from any recognized university.
  • Additionally, candidates must hold a B.Ed. Degree in any discipline from a recognized university in Kerala or its equivalent.
  • For subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, candidates with an M.Sc.Ed. Degree (50% marks) from any of the Regional Institutes of Education (NCERT) are eligible.
  • Candidates with Master’s Degree in Communicative English and B.Ed. are eligible to appear in English.
  • For subjects like Arabic, Hindi, and Urdu without B.Ed., candidates holding Diploma in Lateral Entry Teacher Training Course (DLEd/LTTC) are also eligible.
  • Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology and a B.Ed. Degree in Natural Science can apply.
  • Candidates in the final year of their PG or B.Ed. courses can apply provisionally but must pass the qualifying examinations with required marks within one year of SET result declaration.

Relaxation in Marks

  • Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and Differently Abled categories get a relaxation of 5% in minimum marks, i.e., they require only 45% marks in the Master’s Degree to be eligible.

Age Limit

  • There is no upper age limit to appear for the Kerala SET January 2026 examination.

Other Eligibility Details

  • Qualifications obtained via recognized distance or open universities are accepted, provided candidates submit equivalency certificates from Kerala universities.
  • Candidates holding qualifications in subjects not listed must produce eligibility certificates issued by a recognized Kerala university.
  • For some subjects like Commerce, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, and Music, a B.Ed. degree is not mandatory.
