SMIT 2026 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Nationality

• The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
• NRIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals are also eligible but must follow SMIT’s admission guidelines.

Age Limit

• The candidate should be at least 17 years old as of 31st December 2026.
• There is no upper age limit specified for SMIT 2026.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed or must be appearing for the Class 12 / Higher Secondary Examination in 2026 from a recognized board.

Mandatory Subjects

• Physics (Compulsory)
• Mathematics (Compulsory)
• Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Computer Science (any one)

Minimum Marks Required

• General Category: Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Physics + Mathematics + one optional subject.
• Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC): Minimum 45% aggregate marks in the same combination.

Reservation Policy

• SMIT follows the Government of Sikkim reservation norms.
• Relaxation in minimum marks is applicable for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

Eligibility for Lateral Entry (Direct 2nd Year Admission)

• Candidates with a Diploma in Engineering/Technology from a recognized institute are eligible.
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Diploma (45% for SC/ST/OBC).

Eligibility for Foreign / NRI Students

• Candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects.
• Marks must meet the minimum percentage requirement set by SMIT.
• Foreign/NRI candidates are exempted from SMIT online test but must apply directly.
