TNEA 2026 counselling is a fully online process conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) for B.E./B.Tech admissions in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges, based on the rank list (Class 12 PCM normalized marks). It occurs in multiple rounds (typically 3-4 general + special reservations) starting early July 2026 after rank list publication.

Key Stages and Steps

  • Counselling Registration: Qualified rank holders login at tneaonline.org, pay counselling fee (Rs 5000 general/Rs 1000 SC/ST/ST), and confirm participation.
  • Choice Filling: Select preferred colleges/courses in order of priority (any number allowed); lock choices before deadline. Order matters—higher ranks get first preference.
  • Tentative Seat Allotment: System allocates seats based on rank, category, choices, and availability; check via login.
  • Seat Confirmation Options:
    • Accept & Freeze: Keep seat, exit process.
    • Accept & Upward Movement: Accept but eligible for better seat in next round.
    • Decline/Reject: Forfeit current allotment.
  • Provisional Allotment: Download order after confirmation; report to allotted college/TFC (TNEA Facilitation Centre) with originals, pay tuition fees.
  • Final Reporting: Complete admission at college; failure to report cancels seat.

Q1. Who conducts TNEA counseling?

Ans. The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu, manages the entire process.

Q2. When does TNEA counselling will start? 

Ans. Choice filling: 1st week July 2026; multiple rounds till August.

Q3. If I forgot my TNEA counseling portal password, how can I get it back?

Ans. Candidates must use their User ID and password to access their counseling portal in order to participate in TNEA counseling.  The candidates' user ID is their registered email address.

The candidates can retrieve their password by following the instructions below if they have forgotten it:

  • On the TNEA counseling login screen, select "Forgot password."
  • An email with the link and instructions for changing the password will be sent to the right email address.
  • Candidates can reset their password by clicking the link.
  • Please write the new password somewhere to help you remember it when it has been changed.
