School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi

The top architecture college in India is located in the capital city of the nation. It was established in the year 1941. It is not only top-ranked in India but also the 7th best in Asia and one among the 10 graduate planning education institutes in the world. It was formerly started as a department of architecture under Delhi College of engineering. In 1979 the institute was granted a deemed university status and this emerged as a separate institute.

 

Sir JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai

It was established in the year 1910. This institute is affiliated to Mumbai University. They provide bachelor’s, masters degree as well as a PhD in architecture. It was recognized as a participant under the USAID project by the bureau of energy efficiency. This is Asia’s first architecture school and recognized well by architecture school all over the world.

 

Chandigarh College of Architecture

It was established in the year 1961. It is academically affiliated to Punjab university. They offer a five-year course of B.Arch. they have a well-planned 10-semester programme. It consists of several stages under which theoretical knowledge and practical exposure is provided also at the end of the course a professional practice phase is included. It enrols 200 undergraduates a year in its huge campus.

 

IIT KHARAGPUR

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is a public institute. It was established back in 1951 in west Bengal. Department of architecture was established in the year 1952 under the leadership of E Braner. Presently the students get well placed to deal with designing of the township and in plans to conserve the heritage sites.

 

BIT MESRA

Birla Institute of Technology is a deemed university located in Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand. It was established by the industrialist BM Birla back in 1955. Every student is admitted strictly based on AIR in JEE and COMED-K for UG courses. The department of architecture was established in the year 1993. They offer B.Arch and masters and urban planning and enrol 8 scholars a year for PhD courses.

 

Department of Architecture, NIT Tiruchirappalli

This department is a part of NIT Tiruchirappalli. It is a public institute. Located in Tiruchirappalli Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated to AICTE &MHRD. It has a huge campus. Kumund Srinivasan is the present chairman. This department was started in the academic year 1980-81.

 

Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal

It is a private educational institute located in Manipal, Karnataka. It is affiliated to Manipal University. It was established in 1957 with the founder being Dr.TMA Pai, whereas the faculty of architecture was started in 1978. The director is Dr.GK Prabhu. It has an A+ accreditation by MHRD India. They provide students with innovation centre, well-equipped workshops etc. It also provides excellent placements for students. They offer B.Arch and M.Arch also they have a department of design with is in collaboration with international colleges.

 

CEPT University, Ahmedabad

Center for environmental planning and technology is located in Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus. It was established in 1962 with financial support from the government of India and Ford foundation. Dr.Bimal Patel is the president of this university. They train their students not only in architecture but also for building planning and designs. In 2007 this institute was recognized by the department of science and industrial research. The admissions here is done through the basis of personal interview and group discussions.

 

Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Millia, New Delhi

The only central university for architecture and ekistics in India. The architecture course was started in this university in the academic year 2001-02. It has a full-fledge faculty who not only complete the course on architecture but also facilitate multidisciplinary research to deal with human settlement. They offer two bachelor’s course and five types of master’s course. Thus the students from here are trained specifically to deal with problems of settlement on urban areas. The admissions here are based on written test and amplitude test also followed by an interview.

 

School of Architecture RV College, Bangalore

It was established in the year 1992. Located within the campus of RV College of engineering in the Silicon city of Karnataka. The students can seek admission here through clearing amplitude test or even management quotas. It is a private coeducational college with an intake of only 30 students a year. They offer bachelor’s and master’s course on architecture. This institute facilitates students with spacious campus and various facilities like seminar halls, libraries, computer labs etc. For the students, the exposure provided in the field and placement in the private and public sector is very much promising.
