In 1993, the Vinod Gupta School of Management was established as a unique initiative among Indian Institutes of Technology. IIT Kharagpur's VGSoM, a management school, adopted the parent Institute's culture of research and excellent education. The VGSoM now offers a variety of five degrees, beginning with its flagship Master of Business Administration program. Operating out of its campus in Kolkata, the Executive MBA program predominantly draws working executives from the country's eastern area.

The doctoral program at the school is active. Another unique curriculum, the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics, is provided in collaboration between the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta, and the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur.
