Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Economics University Scholarships & Eligibility

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Economics University (BASE) in Bengaluru offers a range of merit-based, category-specific, and government-sponsored scholarships to support its economics students, particularly in the residential Integrated M.Sc. and two-year M.Sc. programs. These aids target meritorious performers, Karnataka residents, and reserved categories like SC/ST/OBC/EWS, easing the annual fee burden of around Rs1-1.1 lakh (including hostel).

Types of Scholarships

BASE provides institutional merit scholarships alongside state and national schemes. Key offerings include:

Merit Scholarships: Batch topper gets 50% fee waiver; Karnataka topper receives 30%; one SC/ST/EWS student awarded 20%. Renewed at end of first year and start of fourth year for Integrated M.Sc.
EXIM Bank-BASE Scholarship: Supports select economics students via Export-Import Bank of India tie-up, covering partial tuition for high achievers.
Post-Matric Scholarships (SSP): State portal-funded for SC/ST/OBC; reimburses tuition, hostel, and maintenance (up to Rs20,000-50,000 annually based on category).
Karnataka State Scholarships: Exim Bank and government aids for economically weaker sections; EWS scholarships via fee concessions.
Other Government Schemes: Central aids like Post-Matric for SC/ST (full tuition waiver + stipend Rs2,300/month boys/Rs2,550 girls), OBC (?750/month), and minority scholarships integrated via NSP portal.

Limited to 3 students per batch for merit awards; state schemes have broader eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria

Merit-Based: Top ranks in first-year exams; no category bar for batch topper, but separate for Karnataka/SC-ST/EWS toppers. Minimum CGPA 7.5-8.0 typically required for renewal.
Category Scholarships: SC/ST (family income <Rs2.5 lakh), OBC (<rs1-2.5 lakh), EWS (<Rs8 lakh); Karnataka domicile proof mandatory for state aids. Academic threshold: 50-60% in qualifying exams.
EXIM/Financial Aid: CUET merit + economic need; prioritized for Integrated M.Sc. students from rural/low-income backgrounds.
Exclusions: No merit reservations; self-financing international students ineligible for state schemes.

Application Process

Apply post-admission via BASE portal (base.ac.in/scholarships) or State Scholarship Portal (SSP).
Submit first-year results for merit awards; upload income, caste, domicile certificates, Aadhaar, bank details, and fee receipts.
Institutional scholarships auto-processed via TPO/academics; state aids require online verification (e.g., SSP instructions manual).
Deadlines: Typically July-Oct for freshers, post-exams for merit (circulars on site). Direct benefit transfer to bank.

Financial Aid Options

Beyond scholarships, BASE offers:

Aid Type	Coverage/Details	Target Group
Fee Installments	Quarterly payments; no interest	All students
Mess Fee Waivers	Partial for low-income Rs?3,000/month opt.)	EWS/SC-ST
Education Loans	Tie-ups with banks like SBI/Canara	Merit/need-based

Total aid can reduce effective costs to Rs50,000-70,000/year for qualifiers; 2025 reviews note 10-15% students benefited.

Additional Details

Student feedback praises affordability (total 5-year cost Rs5.6-7.5 lakh pre-aid) but notes competitive merit slots.
Candidates need to check base.ac.in for 2026 updates, as hikes (5%/year) apply post-aid.
