Government Medical College, Karur is a prestigious institution affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University. It is situated along the serene banks of river Amaravathi.Government Medical College Hospital offers high class medical facilities to the public with earnest sincerity and care.  The maternity ward of the Govt Hospital, Karur was founded by E.W.LEGH, I.C.S on 16.12.1920 and inaugurated by P. MACQUEEN I.C.S., the then collector of Trichinopoly during the British Reign. It is still functioning for the public welfare. Well equipped Ophthalmology Operation Theatre  has been operating since October,1999. An enhanced Intensive Cardiac Care Unit is in service for the people  from  22.3.2000. An excellently functioning Emergency Medicine block was inaugurated on 21.8.1985 is serving people till date to witness the light of joy in the faces of the millions of people.
