Education plays a pivotal role in nurturing citizens into productive members of society. A philanthropic institution, "The Tandava Sugarcane Growers and the Tuni Commission Merchants Association," in conjunction with the unwavering support of various educational philanthropists, spearheaded the establishment of this esteemed institution.
Established on October 6th, 1980, TTSCG & TTCMA Government Degree College began its mission of providing quality higher education. Initially affiliated with Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, the college commenced its journey by offering Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) programs, catering to a founding cohort of 80 students.
In recognition of its excellence, the college was accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under sections 2(f) and 12(B) on August 2nd, 1988. This recognition marked a significant milestone and led to the college being renamed as Government Degree College, Tuni. In response to the evolving needs of the student body and the job market, the college progressively broadened its curriculum. Recognizing the growing demand for science education, a conventional B.Sc. program with a focus on Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry was introduced in 1998. Responding further to the burgeoning importance of computer literacy, the college restructured its offerings in 2000-2001 by introducing a B.Sc. program in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science alongside a BA in Computer Applications. Recognizing the needs of nearby industries, the college established a self-financed postgraduate program in M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) in 2003. Understanding the changing landscape of employment, the college established the Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC) in 2007. This dedicated center plays a vital role in equipping students with vital employability skills and life skills that prepare them for success beyond graduation.
Since 2012, the college has been affiliated with Adi Kavi Nannaya University. Its dedication to quality education is reflected in its accreditation with a ‘B’ Grade by NAAC, Bangalore, in both 2006 and 2014.
