The college started functioning from 1954 with Arts stream for Boys , however over the years it has grown into a multidisciplinary Co-educational institute offering B.A., B.Sc., BBA and BCA at the UG level and Honors in English, Mathematics and Physics and PG in Mathematics and Music. The yearly enrollment of the college in all programmes is around 3500.
The college library is automated and stocked with more than 60000 books. Most of the classrooms have smart boards and interactive panels. The whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled and under CCTV surveillance for the safety and security of students. The teaching faculty of the college is highly qualified and most of them are NET/JRF/SLET qualified and Ph.D.The students of the college have excellent record not only in Academics but also in Sports, NCC, NSS and Cultural events. The alumni of the college have made a mark for themselves in diverse fields, be it Politics, Administration, Judiciary, Army , Business and Academics. Maulana Azad Memorial Post Graduate College, a prestigious educational institution, celebrated its 70th anniversary in September 2024, marking a remarkable journey of growth, transformation, and dedication to academic excellence. The college traces its origins back to April 23, 1907, when it was established as Prince of Wales College. After India’s independence, it was renamed Govt. Gandhi Memorial College on June 4, 1948, before being bifurcated into Arts and Science streams in 1954 to accommodate the increasing student population. On September 23, 1960, the Arts College was renamed as Govt. Maulana Azad Memorial College in honor of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of India. Over the years, the college expanded its offerings, introducing postgraduate courses in Mathematics (2003), BCA (2009), BBA (2010), and Music (2017), becoming a multi-faceted institution with a wide range of disciplines across both the arts and sciences
