Viswakavi Vemana Government Degree College, Kothapeta was started in the year 1979 with the blessingsof the then Chief Minister Dr.Marri Chenna Reddy and Sri. M.V.S. Subbaraju, Promoter and the then M.L.A of Kothapeta Assembly Constituency. Before 1979 there was no Degree College in Kothapeta Taluk though it was one of the biggest taluks comprising the present Mandals of Kothapeta, Ravulapalem and Atreyapuram. Kothapeta is located centrally in Konaseema, at that time the students of this area had to go to places like Rajamundry, Kakinada and Amalapuram for under-graduate education. This had caused many hard ships both to the students (especially girl students) and parents.
