Govt. Arts College, Salem, Tamilnadu Application/Admission Process

The admission process for Government Arts College, Salem (GAC Salem) is centralized through the Tamil Nadu Government Arts and Science Colleges Admission (TNGASA) portal. Since the college is autonomous, the final selection and counseling details are often posted on both the TNGASA portal and the college’s official website.

 

1. General Admission Cycle (Expected 2026)

The admission timeline typically follows the release of 10+2 (Higher Secondary) results in Tamil Nadu.

  • UG Application Window: May – June 2026. 

  • PG Application Window: June – July 2026. 

  • Rank List Publication: July – August 2026

2. Step-by-Step Application Process

For most undergraduate (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, BBA) and postgraduate (M.A., M.Sc., M.Com) courses, the process is as follows:

  1. Online Registration: Visit the official TNGASA website (tngasa.in). 

  2. Filling Details: Enter personal info, academic marks, and special reservation categories (Sports, Ex-servicemen, Differently-abled, etc.). 

  3. Choice Filling: You must specifically select Government Arts College (Autonomous), Salem-7 and your preferred departments.

  4. Fee Payment:

    • General/OBC: Rs.50 (Application fee) + Rs.2 (Registration fee).

    • SC/ST/SCA: No application fee (Registration fee of Rs.2 only).

  5. Submission: Download and print the generated application form for future counseling rounds 

3. Selection & Counseling

Admission is purely merit-based, calculated using your marks in the qualifying examination (Class 12 for UG, Graduation for PG).

  • Rank List: The college publishes a department-wise rank list based on TNGASA data.

  • Single Window Counseling: Candidates are called for in-person or online counseling based on their rank and the Government of Tamil Nadu Reservation Policy:

    • OC (31%), BC (26.5%), BCM (3.5%), MBC/DNC (20%), SC (15%), SCA (3%), ST (1%).

  • Document Verification: You must carry original certificates (TC, Marksheets, Community Certificate, Income Certificate) to the college for final verification.

4. Specific Entrance Exams (MBA & MCA)

While most courses are merit-based, professional programs follow a different route:

  • MBA & MCA: Admission is conducted via TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) scores followed by state-level single-window counseling. 

  • M.Phil & Ph.D.: Admission involves an entrance test conducted by the college/Periyar University followed by an interview.

5. Essential Documents for Admission

  • 10th & 12th Marksheets (Original + Copies). 

  • Transfer Certificate (TC). 

  • Community Certificate (for reservation). 

  • Recent Passport-size Photos. 

  • Aadhar Card.
