Gulbarga University, now known as University of Kalaburagi, provides higher education to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region in north-eastern Karnataka. Established in 1980 by an Act of the KarnatakaState Legislature, it evolved from a post-graduate center of Karnatak University, Dharwad that began operations in 1970, serving districts including Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Bellary, and Koppal with focus on regional development under Article 371(J). NAAC B+ accredited spanning an 860-acre Jnana Ganga main campus 6 km east of Kalaburagi city plus PG centers at Aland, Bellary, Raichur, and Basavakalyan, it offers multidisciplinary programs through 38 PG departments.
