JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP), a socio-cultural institution, founded by His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd Pontiff of Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math, Sutturu Srikshetra, in 1954 with the objective to bring a revolution in education and health care fields for social transformation. While the focus has been on providing opportunities for formal education, the strong thrust is on values, ethics and the meeting of societal obligations. JSSMVP adopts a multipronged approach to ensure a better quality of life. Through its over 350 varied institutions, it not only provides learning to over 90000 students but also touches the lives of millions through a cascading effect. The present Pontiff His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the 24th spiritual Head of Sutturu Math and President of JSS Mahavidyapeetha has been the torch bearer of its tradition of providing educational excellence, health care and nurturing rural development for the economic upliftment of society.
JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, a first degree college established in 1964 by JSS Mahavidyapeetha, is situated on a sprawling 7.08 acres plot with a spacious building and a hostel in a picturesque surrounding at the foot of Chamundi Hills of Mysuru. The college is a Multi-faculty, Co-educational, autonomous College, re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A+’ Grade (CGPA: 3.30) and recognised as College with Potential for Excellence by UGC. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushal Kendra and Kaushalya Karnataka scheme have been sanctioned to the college by UGC and GoK, respectively. The College has been recognized as ‘Research Centre’ under University of Mysore to undertake doctoral and research studies in nine subjects. The college is hosting ‘JSS Radio 91.2 FM’, a Community Radio Station sanctioned by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India. The College is known to provide need-based, skill integrated, cost-effective, quality and holistic education, transforming the students into globally competitive, employable and responsible citizens. The College offers a total of 61 programmes, viz., BSc (11 Programmes), BA (11 Programmes), B Com, BCA, BBA, B Voc (Food Processing & Engineering, Software Development, Animation and Multimedia, Advanced Telecom Technologies, and Tourism & Hospitality Management), MSc (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology), M Com, MA (English, Kannada), MSW, M Voc (Food Processing & Engineering, Software Development), MCA (AICTE approved programme ) and PhD (Kannada, English, Social Work, Commerce, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). A PG Diploma Programme in Protein Scale up and Expression has been sanctioned to the College by Government of Karnataka in 2011 under Biotechnology Finishing School (BTFS) is being offered and at present the same is getting operated under the synonym of Biotechnology Skill Enhancement Programme (BiSEP). Two Advanced Diploma programmes in Animation & Multimedia and Retail Management are also offered. Besides, COCs and PG Diploma Programmes are also offered.
