From its beginning as a junior college in 1964, the college has grown into an arts and science college, affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, having 15 UG, 11 PG, 4 Research and various Skill development programmes.
The college is named after St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the Heavenly Patron of thisinstitution and the founding father of the Congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous Catholic Religious Congregation in India. St. Kuriakose EliasChavara is widely acclaimed as one of the pioneering Renaissance reformers of Kerala. The college is managed by the Kuriakose Elias Educational and Charitable Trust, Mannanam. ThePrior of St. Joseph’s Monastery, the Mother House of the CMI Congregation, is the Chairman of the Trust and the Manager of the college.
