Govt. Kamla Raja Girls Post Graduate (Autonomous) College was first women college established in 1937 in Gwalior State (Scindhia Riyasat) with aim to educate women for individual empowerment, societal progress and ensure their participation in national development .After independence, the college run under Higher education department of Madhya Pradesh and since than it occupies a prominent place among the Government institutes of higher education not only in the state of Madhya Pradesh but also in other states of Northern India .It has been a long journey through the eighty eight years and yet the journey has perhaps just begun. However, the college continuously spread its wings to onwards march in scaling the new heights for pursuing the progress of women higher education. College has grown into a multidisciplinary institution hosting diverse undergraduate courses with various subject combinations in arts, commerce, science, and home science, Postgraduate program in many subjects as well as some Professional programs .Ninteen PG departments were recognized reseach centers. The college aims to facilitate and promote research and extension work in the emerging area. It is the only institution in this region where Urdu and Marathi languages are included at Undergraduate and Post Graduate level.

The college is affiliated to Jiwaji University, Gwalior and recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the Act, 1956.In recognition of its significant achievements, the UGC and the state government granted autonomy to the college in 1996. As an Autonomous college, it has created many opportunities inside with the inclusion of new courses. The autonomous status was last reviewed in 2004 and 2015 and extended till June 2021.

Since2021, the college has initiated the implementation of National Education Policy( NEP) 2020, focusing on multidisciplinary learning and academic flexibility with stronger emphasis on research, innovation and holistic education. The college is Strengthened by the benefits of Autonomy hence adopted CBCS pattern and introducing credit base framework, with multiple entry and exit option .Undergraduate and Postgraduate curricula are being in alignment with NEP guidelines .The student strength is nearly Twelve thousand , 100 permanent faculties and 24 guest faculties are appointed in the college With support of Janbhagidari Samiti, the college has expended its resources productively and has ensured their optimal use. The college also receive Grants by RUSA in Phase 2 under component 9 ,for Infrastructure Development and enrichment of Laboratories. By the well-planned schemes the college has expanded some new blocks for the studies of Job-Oriented courses such as B.B.A, P.G.D.C.A., B.A.L.L.B. (Honours), B.C.A. It has well established central library with E-Library facilities , Sophisticated computer labs, to cater the needs of students.

The student support activities were regularly conducted through N.S.S., N.C.C. and Sports department .Placement guidance were regularly provided through Career Guidance Cell Short Term Certificate Courses have been introduced by the college since 2016 to provide students additional vocational skills along with the regular degree courses the college provides an environment of equal learning opportunities by addressing the needs of its students from diverse socio-economic and academic background. it has also addressed the need of inclusive education for the differently-abled students by creating disabled-friendly barrier-free campus and providing conducive teaching-learning environment. constant efforts are being made by the college to strengthen each component through internal quality assurance cell (IQAC). We are committed to maintain the high standards of education and contribute in National development.
