Kandivli Education Society’s Law College, Mumbai Scholarships & Eligibility

Kandivli Education Society’s (KES) Law College, also known as Shri Jayantilal H. Patel Law College, is committed to making legal education accessible to a diverse student body. As an institution affiliated with the University of Mumbai and recognized by the Government of Maharashtra, it facilitates several state and central scholarship schemes, alongside institutional support for meritorious and underprivileged students.

For the 2025–2026 academic cycle, students can avail themselves of the following financial aid options to support their 3-year LL.B. or 5-year B.L.S. LL.B. studies.

1. Government Scholarship Schemes (MAHA-DBT)

The primary source of financial aid for students at KES Law College is the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell and the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) through the Maha-DBT portal.

  • Scholarships for Students with Disabilities:

3. Institutional and Minority Support

As KES Law College is a Gujarati Linguistic Minority institution, it often facilitates specialized support for students from the community.

  • KES Management Aid: On a case-by-case basis, the Kandivli Education Society management provides "Need-Based" fee concessions or installment facilities for students facing sudden financial hardships.

  • Merit Prizes: The college organizes an annual Merit Day where toppers in the University of Mumbai examinations and internal semester exams are awarded cash prizes and certificates of excellence to encourage competitive academic spirit.

4. Eligibility Criteria Overview

To qualify for most financial aid at KES Law College, students must meet these general conditions:

  1. CAP Admission: For state-funded scholarships, the student must have been admitted through the government’s CAP rounds. Management quota students are often ineligible for state fee reimbursements.

  2. Attendance: A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory. Students with poor attendance records may have their scholarship applications rejected by the DHE.

  3. Academic Progression: Students must not have "Dead Backlogs." While some schemes allow for one or two failures (ATKT), most merit-based scholarships require the student to pass all subjects in the first attempt.

  4. Aadhaar Seeding: The student's bank account must be linked with Aadhaar to facilitate the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of funds.

5. Application Process

The application process is strictly regulated and time-bound.

  1. Online Registration: For Maharashtra state schemes, students must register on the Maha-DBT portal (mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in). For central schemes, use the NSP portal.

  2. Document Submission: Essential documents include:

    • Income Certificate (Form 16 or Tahasildar-issued).

    • Previous Year Marksheets.

    • CAP Allotment Letter.

    • Caste Certificate and Validity (if applicable).

    • Domicile Certificate of Maharashtra.

  3. College Scrutiny: After online submission, students must submit a physical set of documents to the College Office (Scholarship Desk). The college clerk verifies the documents before "pumping" the application to the Department level.

  4. Timeline: Applications usually open in September/October and must be renewed every year.
