Muthayammal College of Arts & Science Scholarships & Eligibility

Muthayammal College of Arts & Science (MCAS) facilitates several scholarship schemes, primarily focused on supporting students from specific social categories, merit-based achievers, and those from economically weaker backgrounds.

Government Scholarship Schemes

These schemes are managed in accordance with state and central government regulations:

  • SC/ST Scholarship: For students belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities.

    • Eligibility: Annual family income must be below Rs.2.5 lakhs.

  • Post-Matric Scholarship for Minorities (BC-Christian & BCM-Muslim):

    • Eligibility: Students must have secured at least 50% in their previous qualifying examination. Annual family income must not exceed Rs.2 lakhs.

  • Central Sector Scholarship:

    • Eligibility: UG students must secure at least 80% marks in their 12th standard (first attempt), and PG students must secure 80% in their semester exams (first attempt).

    • Note: The annual family income limit is ?6 lakhs, and students receiving other government scholarships are generally ineligible.

  • SC/ST Prize Scheme: Offered to final-year UG and PG students who score at least 60% in their university examinations (first attempt).

  • SC/ST Ph.D. Scholarship: Available for full-time Ph.D. scholars from SC, ST, and SC Converted Christian categories.

    • Eligibility: Minimum 55% in Master’s degree, family income below ?8 lakhs, and age limits (up to 50 years for men, 55 for women).

Institutional & Merit Scholarships

In addition to government schemes, the college provides internal financial support:

  • Management Scholarships: The institution provides tuition fee concessions for deserving students. Historically, this has included support for sports excellence and alumni-referred students.

  • Academic Merit-Based Waivers: While not always standardized, the college frequently offers fee reductions for high-performing students. Based on recent feedback, students scoring above 85% in their 12th standard have previously received significant fee waivers (e.g., 20–30%).

  • Founder Memorial Scholarship: Often available for siblings of alumni (son/daughter/sister/brother), which may include a waiver of one semester's fee.
