Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications

  • Master's Degree: Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Allied Disciplines, or Humanities from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (or an equivalent grade B in the UGC 7-point scale).
  • Relaxation for Reserved Categories: A relaxation of 5% in marks (from 55% to 50%) is admissible for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Differently-Abled, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories, as per Central Government norms.
  • Phil. Degree: Candidates holding an M.Phil. degree in Education or Social Sciences with at least 55% marks are also eligible.

Specific Requirements for Part-Time Candidates

  • Professional Experience: Applicants for the Part-Time Ph.D. program must possess a minimum of two to three years of continuous teaching or administrative experience in educational institutions, government departments, or research organizations.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC): Part-Time applicants must submit a formal No Objection Certificate from their employer ensuring adequate study leave for mandatory coursework.

Admission Process & Selection Methodology

Stage I: National Level Entrance Test (RET)

Eligible candidates appear for NIEPA's Research Entrance Test (RET), evaluating research methodology, quantitative reasoning, analytical thinking, and domain knowledge in educational planning and administration.

  • Note: Candidates who have cleared national tests such as UGC-NET (JRF), CSIR-NET (JRF), SLET, or hold a regular M.Phil. degree with coursework are exempted from the written test and proceed directly to Stage II.

Stage II: Research Proposal & Personal Interview

Shortlisted candidates are invited for a personal interview before the Academic Selection Committee. Applicants must present a well-formulated Research Proposal (1,500 to 2,000 words) detailing their proposed research questions, methodology, theoretical framework, and potential policy relevance.
