A central university, named Sindhu Central University (SCU), has been established by the government in the Ladakh Union Territory (UT) to guarantee improved accessibility and quality of higher education, as well as to facilitate and promote avenues of higher education and research for the intellectual growth of the people. Three postgraduate or master's programs will be offered by Sindhu Central University, Ladakh starting in August 2023: an M.Tech in energy technology and policy, an M.Tech in atmospheric and climatic sciences, and an M.A. in public policy.

In accordance with NEP 2020 and UGC standards, the university will also implement provisions for online and distance learning (ODL) courses that enable multiple entry/exit possibilities and credit accumulation in the Academic Credit Bank.
