With donations from Sourashtra community philanthropists, the college was founded in 1967 to give higher education to the young people of the socially and economically disadvantaged Sourashtra community.

From its beginnings with three undergraduate programs to its current status with 20 undergraduate programs (8 aided and 12 self-finance), 5 post-graduate programs (3 aided and 2 self-finance), and 2 professional degree programs (M.B.A. and M.C.A. in self-finance), the college has achieved a number of milestones. Additionally, there are four M.Phil. programs in management, physics, English, and commerce as well as three Ph.D. programs in business administration, English, and commerce available for research activity.
