Aadhaar Card must for fee reimbursement

The state government has decided to make the Aadhaar card mandatory for students to claim fee reimbursement from this academic year 2011-12.
This decision was taken at the meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee on fee reimbursement in the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Though the move was aimed at preventing bogus students from claiming the benefit, it may trigger protests from the financially fragile sections as the majority of the students still don’t have Aadhar cards.

As per official records, more than one crore people are yet to receive their Aadhar cards despite enrolling for them months ago. Vari
ous BC, SC, ST and minority unions have been strongly opposing to linking the fee reimbursement scheme either with ration cards or Aadhar cards.

In a move that will come as a relief to students from SC and ST categories, the government has decided to raise the annual family income limit to `2 lakh from the existing `1 lakh.

The government has also decided to constitute a committee to increase the mess charges for SC, ST students.

The minister for social welfare, Mr P. Satyanarayana, said that the applications of nearly 2.4 lakh students who had submitted wrong documents to claim fee reimbursement were given time till July 25 to submit relevant documents.
