Aspiring post-graduate and MBBS students from various medical colleges have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Andhra Pradesh PG MET examination. Over 50 post graduate seats have been given away by corrupt means; they claimed and want the 'culprit' to be nabbed.Dr K. Abhilash, president of Junior Doctors Association, said, "We want the 'real culprit' to be exposed otherwise it will set an unhealthy precedent in the medical field. We are not afraid of re-exams or re-ranking but what is the use of conducting it if the same people are going to judge us?"Post-graduate aspirants have to answer objective type questions in their tests and these are probably the toughest as it requires a thorough knowledge of not only text books but also practical approach to the problems. The objective type questions help to assess the ability of the student to approach the problem in a practical manner rather than from theory. Over 1,500 students gathered in the auditorium of Gandhi Hospital on Saturday afternoon and deliberated on the methods they should take to fight against this malpractice.Dr M. Abhijeet of Osmania Medical College explained, "We want meritorious students to get a chance. How can the nation have good doctors if fraudsters are given top ranks?" Dr Mohammed Imran said, "If we allow such elements to have an upper hand today, it is 50 seats, next time it may be 100."There are 646 post-graduate seats in Andhra Pradesh while students writing the exams are in thousands. Agitated students have submitted a strong complaint to Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan and demanded that a proper independent inquiry be conducted. A senior student explained, "If the university is at fault, then the culprits must be booked. Letting them off is not in the interest of students or the medical education."
