Book in Hindi on internal security for UPSC aspirants

The book 'Challenges to Internal Security of India: For Civil Services Main Examination' was launched by BSF chief D K Pathak here. The compilation is a maiden attempt to simplify popularly used jargons like 'external state', 'state actors', 'non-state actors' in the internal security domain by two serving police officers.

The lead author of the book is 1989-batch Uttarakhand cadre IPS officer Ashok Kumar, who has earlier published collections on various subjects of Indian policing. The second author Vipul recently joined the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS).

The book, using first hand experiences of Kumar in active duties, attempts to provide a conceptual framework and analysis of the issues in a simple fashion. Kumar is at present posted as Inspector General of BSF (Punjab) frontier.

"The syllabus in the UPSC examinations on this subject is bit vague and hence we wrote the book in such a way that it will help prevent aspirants from spending hours surfing Internet or checking out other un trusted sources in finding out the correct meaning of terms like 'external state' and 'non-state actors' or 'linkages between development and spread of extremism'," Kumar said.

The book is aimed to de-jargonize such terms and help the young aspirants to make the correct usage of them, he said. Security and disaster management is an important topic in the General Studies paper-II of Civil services Main Exam. The book, which has gone into its third print, has been published by McGraw-Hill publications.
