Coaching centres rush into exam mode

Many localities in the city are abuzz with activity by 6 am with students flocking to popular coaching centres. With the Intermediate and SSC board exams drawing closer, students are burning the midnight oil. 'Exam fever' has gripped not only students, but their parents too. Both students and parents are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure that they do everything perfectly before the crucial board exams.

Localities such as Vidyanagar, Narayanguda, Himayatnagar, Tarnaka, Habsiguda, Masab Tank, Mehdipatnam, Dilsukh nagar, Ameerpet, SR Nagar, Kukatpally etc where several popular coaching centres are located are a beehive of activity from six in the morning. The bus stops in these areas which normally wear a deserted look in the early hours are filled with students coming from surrounding areas to attend coaching classes. The marks secured in Inter board exams are important this year because of the decision of the Centre to give 40 per cent weightage to these marks in Joint Entrance Examinations (Main) besides allowing only those students with Top-20 percentile in Inter second year exams to appear for JEE (Advanced) for admission to Indian Institute of Technology .

Mock exams being conducted in coaching centres are in great demand. While Inter exams are scheduled to begin from March 6, SSC exams will commence from March 22. About 18 lakh Inter students and 14 lakh SSC students have registered for board exams this year. Counselling centres and helplines across the city have been receiving several calls ahead of exams from both students and parents. While students are seeking the help of counsellors to overcome exam stress, the parents are asking them to give tips on how to help their children during exams season.
