Counselling ends in spite of strike

Despite strikes and agitations in the Seemandhra region, the department of higher education has succeeded in completing the counselling for professional courses ? medical, engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA, M.Tech. etc. ? in the state by September 20th.

It has now initiated counselling for remaining professional courses like B.Ed. and law. The department is aiming to conclude the counselling for all professional courses before Dasara in the second week of October. Students and parents were concerned about the non-commencement of counselling for Eamcet and ICET till September. Though the staff at the counselling centres went on indefinite strike in the Seemandhra region and obstructed counselling process, officials made alternate arrangements and ensured successful completion of counselling.

While Eamcet engineering seat allotments were announced on September 17, Icet seat allotments were made on September 20. The government wanted to complete the counselling for Eamcet engineering and ICET, since it was already running behind schedule by more than a month. The Supreme Court deadline was to complete the first phase of counselling for these courses by July 31 and commence classes from August 1.The government was forced to file a petition in the Supreme Court seeking extension of the deadline, which the court had permitted.
