GATE 2025 ECE (AIR 1): ‘I prepared during my 3-hour commute to Jadavpur University

Swarnava Biswas from West Bengal has achieved a score of 82.67 out of 100 in Electronics and Communication Engineering in the GATE 2025 exam. Coming from a unique background, his father is a chess coach, while his mother is a professional photographer. With influences from both chess and photography, Biswas with his analytical and problem-solving skills, appeared for the GATE.

Belonging to a middle-class family in West Bengal, Swarnava wanted to crack GATE and IIT JEE Advanced to uplift his family’s financial condition. “I used to love problem-solving. Hence, I was always inclined towards competitive exams. That is how I ended up taking up the IIT-JEE exam and now the GATE exam,”

For Biswas, clarity on topics is essential to crack the exam. He said that students should double-check on clarity and even solve previous year’s questions to know what are there strengths and weakness in a concerned topic to increase accuracy.

“I used to travel 3 hours by train every day for college. However, I always utilized this travel time to study and revise on my phone. Managing my attendance in college and clearing my basics of the GATE exam, along with the support from my family is how I could manage this exam,” said Swarnava Biswas, who is a final year student of BE Electronics and Telecommunications at Jadavpur University.

Rather than focusing on self-preparation, he enrolled himself in PhysicsWallah and followed the route guided by his mentor. When asked about his future plans with GATE 2025 scores he said, “I do want to work with a reputable company in the domain of VLSI and alongside want to pursue my higher studies. However, I will make a final decision after my graduation. As my GATE scores are valid for three years, I might take admission in MTech and later.”

Speaking about his JEE preparation, he said that he secured rank 8403 in JEE Main and ranked 4193 in Advanced. These marks could not make him eligible for the IITs so he appeared for WBJEE and secured 178 rank and got admitted to Jadavpur University.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee released the GATE 2025 results on March 19. Candidates who took the exam can check and download their results by visiting the official website at gate2025.iitr.ac.in. To access their results, candidates should visit the GOAPS portal or the official GATE website and enter their enrollment ID and password. The GATE 2025 scores will remain valid for three years from the date the results are announced.

GATE scores are used for admission to master’s programmes, doctoral programmes and direct doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, architecture, science and humanities, with scholarships and some colleges and institutions also use GATE scores for admission to postgraduate programmes without scholarships.
