Govt. urged to reduce EAMCET cut - off

Hyderabad : The Consortium of Engineering College Managements Association (CECMA) and Rural Engineering Colleges Managements Association have requested the government to reduce the cut-off marks in EAMCET from 40-35 and not to grant scholarships to students studying in other states.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister ,Damodar Rajmarsimha, here on Monday ,representatives of these associations Rajeshwar Reddy and Krishna Reddy ,said that 40,000 students would become eligible for admission to engineering courses if the qualifying marks were reduced to 35.

They said there were 2,10,000 seats available in Convener quota ,while only 137000 students opted for admission leaving 73000 seats vacant.

Tuition fee
The students who have qualified in EAMCET and able to pay tuition fee have already joined colleges in other states due to the special situation prevailing here. There are 40,000 students who got 35 marks in EAMCET and having more than 45 percent in Intermediate are waiting for admission to B.Tech.

“In many States there is only cut-Off either in plus two or Common Entrance Test (CET) But only in A.P. we have two cut-Off both in Inter and EAMCET they said adding that this has worked against the interest of students.

They reminded that the AICTE has fixed 50 percent as cut –off in plus two and reduced it to 45 percent to make technical education more accessible.

On the same lines marks should be reduced in EAMCET too give a chance for 40,000 students to get admission into B.Tech/B.Pharma courses.

They also requested not to grant scholarships to A.P. students studying in private colleges or deemed universities in other states.

They said some private and deemed Universities in Tamilnadu and Karnataka were approaching the government for sanction of Scholarships to A.P. students studying in their Institutions.
