IIT JEE Advanced 2018: While 800 seats are reserved for female candidates

This year, IIT Kanpur, the centre for JEE Advanced 2018 had proposed the introduction of 800 supernumerary seats at various IITs for girls. As per the Times Now report, there are only about 14 girls in top 500 ranks of JEE Advanced and a total of 46 in top 1,000 ranks.

Of the total number of candidates who have qualified for JEE Advanced 2018, only about 1,202 girls have found a place in the top 12,000 ranks. In order to bridge the gender gap at the premier engineering institutes in India, IIT Kanpur, the centre which had organized JEE Advanced this year had kept in mind the gender diversity plan of HRD Ministry.

GENDER DIVERSITY PLAN BY MHRD:

The plan suggests at least 8 per cent more seats will be added to IITs this year to accommodate more girls

This will enhance female representation in popular streams like computer science and electrical engineering

NUMBER OF GIRLS SELECTED IN JEE ADVANCED 2018: RANK WISE

Top 1,000 Rank: 46 girls

Top 5,000 Rank: 410 girls

Top 10,000 Rank: 935 girls
