Kakatiya University planning to set up Academic Staff College

Kakatiya University has been planning to set up Academic Staff College on its campus here, informed the university Registrar Prof K Sayulu. A proposal in this regard has been sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC) seeking its approval. Once the college is established, it would help to improve the academic standards by training the lecturers and to find solutions to problems faced in the field of education, he said.

The Registrar informed this while addressing a degree college principals' meeting at the university on Wednesday. He suggested every college should apply for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) certification. Getting NAAC rating would help to get more funds and various other benefits to the college. He asked te principals to upload the details of their institutions in the university website. "There was an urgent need to strengthen the education system at the college as rapid changes are taking place at national and international-level in the field of education," the Registrar said. Similarly, the authorities concerned should make efforts to improve infrastructure facilities at their respective colleges and appoint well qualified teachers so as to enable the students to get the feel of the academic environment. "Every lecturer and principal should view their profession as a social responsibility," Prof Sayulu said.

The academic plan for the ensuing year was approved in the meeting. Dean (academic affairs) T Ravinder Reddy, controller of examinations M V Ranga Rao, senior faculty members M A Singara Chari, Qazi Altaf Hussain, D Suresh Lal, B Digambara Rao and L P Rajkumar spoke. About 125 principals attended the meeting.
