Mathematics, Botany to decide Top Scorers in Eamcet

The 3.95 lakh candidates who appeared for Eamcet on 22nd May, eyeing a spot in best engineering and medical colleges, felt that Mathematics and Botany are going to be the deciding factors in determining their ranks in engineering and medical streams respectively.

In the 160-mark engineering question paper, the 80-mark Mathematics paper was tougher than 40-mark each Physics and Chemistry. Similarly, in medical stream, the 80-mark Botany would play a key role in determining scores. Physics, which is seen as a bugbear by students writing competitive exams, was relatively easy this time.

Engineering aspirant Rohit said, "Anyone who scores above 60 marks in Maths and does well in other two subjects can secure a place in some top engineering college. With the kind of job market, it is important for me get a seat in a university college."

Echoing similar views, T Kondal Rao, principal, Narayana Group of Educational Institutions, said, "In engineering stream, expect for five questions each in Physics and Chemistry, the papers were doable. But solving Mathematics paper demanded both speed and clear understanding of concepts because there were questions of a little difficult order. Similarly, in medical stream, unlike Physics, which is usually perceived tougher, Botany turned out to be a difficult paper."

The results of Eamcet held on Thursday will be declared on June 9th. The preliminary key to the question papers will be available by Saturday. Briefing media persons here on Thursday after the exam, Eamcet convenor NV Ramana Rao said except for one incident of malpractice reported in Khammam, the exam passed off peacefully. "The engineering stream exam held in the morning recorded an attendance of 94.37 percent and agriculture and medical stream test conducted in the afternoon recorded 94.22 percent attendance," he added. He said qualifying mark for both engineering and medical streams would be 25 percent, ie, around 40 marks.
