Medical Council of India (MCI) cancelled the admission of 519 MBBS students who enrolled in 17 colleges of four different states and attending the classes for past 3 months. All the students are in the state of devastation because of decision taken by MCI. Over the period of time, this is first time MCI has asked to leave large number students from MBBS Programme.
According to MCI, the students who are asked to leave the course are that the colleges admitted directly without any counselling violating the Supreme Court order of September 28, 2016, directing the state government to hold centralised counselling and allot colleges to students based on their performance in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The issue has come in to the light when President of Indian Medical Association, KK Aggarwal filed an RTI seeking response of MCI.
KK Aggarwal stated that while scrutinising the admission process, we found that 17 colleges in four states have given direct admission to 519 students in violation of the Supreme Court order.
List of states that gave direct admissions:
Uttar Pradesh: 14 colleges (481 students)
Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu: One college each (38 students in total)
Meanwhile, students who qualified the NEET entrance test to get into medical colleges are depressed and not willing to give exam again.
When asked to the students, they stated that qualifying NEET to get into another medical college next year is impossible as they have no strength left to study for the exams again.
KK Aggarwal asks MCI to take initiate strict action against the colleges for playing with the careers of hundreds of students and maligning the medical profession.
