The National Institute of Design (NID) has officially commenced the registration process for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2027. Eligible and aspiring candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) programmes for the academic session 2027–28 can now submit their application forms online.

Candidates can access the official application portal through the designated website—admissions.nid.edu. The last date to complete and submit the application form along with the prescribed application fee is November 30, 2026, up to 11:59 PM.

NID DAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must carefully review the eligibility requirements specified in the official NID admissions handbook before applying:

• For B.Des Programme: Candidates who have passed or are appearing in their 10+2 higher secondary education examination (or equivalent) in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from a recognized board are eligible to apply.

• For M.Des Programme: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline of design, fine arts, engineering, or technology, matching the specific academic criteria outlined for respective specializations.

Steps to Apply for NID DAT 2027

Eligible candidates can fill out the application form by following these simple steps:

1. Visit the Official Website: Go to admissions.nid.edu.

2. Complete Registration: Click on the registration/sign-up link on the homepage and provide a valid email ID and active mobile number to finish the OTP verification.

3. Login: Use the system-generated login credentials sent to your registered email to log into your account.

4. Fill Out the Form: Enter your personal details, academic qualifications, and select your preferred exam centers.

5. Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your recent passport-size photograph, signature, and necessary category certificates.

6. Pay Application Fee: Pay the required fee securely via online payment modes (credit card, debit card, or net banking).

7. Submit & Print: Submit the application form and download or print a hard copy of the confirmation page for future reference.

Application Fee Structure

The application fee varies based on the candidate's category and the program applied for:

• General / General-EWS / OBC-NCL: Rs. 3,000

• Female Candidates (except SC, ST, PwD): Rs. 2,000

• SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender Candidates: Rs. 500

• Overseas Candidates (Supernumerary): US $125

Exam Structure

The NID DAT 2027 exam will be conducted in two stages: DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The Prelims exam, scheduled for December 20, 2026, will shortlist candidates for the Mains stage. Scores obtained in the Prelims are strictly used for shortlisting and will not carry forward to the final merit list calculations at the Mains stage.
