No online mode for JEE Advanced 2014 - Mains will be on April 26

The Joint Admission Board (JAB) of Indian Institutes of Technology, which met in New Delhi on September 15, has decided not to introduce the online mode for JEE Advanced exam for 2014. A committee will soon be set up to study the feasibility and acceptability of online examination for the all important admission tests. But as far as the 2014 examination is concerned, it will be in offline mode (i.e. paper and pencil). The JEE Advanced will be held on May 25 next year.

N. K. Panigrahi, Chairman of JEE Advanced, told the media that the IITs would follow a systematic approach before implementing the computer based test. Meanwhile, the JAB has decided not to entertain any change in the pattern that was introduced with regard to filtering of candidates. The percentile system will continue despite drawing flak from all fronts - students, parents and teachers. No immediate rollback is possible, a member of the IIT Council, the elite body, told media.

For the first time, IITs have agreed to get accredited but not by any agency like NBA, but by themselves. They will submit their report to the NBA later. This proposal will be taken to the NBA for discussion, M. M. Pallam Raju, the Union Minister for HRD, said. Agreeing to accreditation would help India become part of Washington Accord, an international agreement among the accrediting agencies of 14 nations that recognizes engineering degree programmes in member-countries.
