SVU's Kavali PG centre transferred to VSU

TIRUPATI: It's now official. Sri Venkateswara University's Post Graduate Centre at Kavali, reckoned as a cash cow, has officially changed hands to Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore.
The transfer of the Rs.6 crore premises, having 12 buildings spread over 79 acres and providing education to 2000 students in 12 departments, marks the end of its 32 years of association with SVU. This centre is expected to serve as the satellite campus of VSU, which has been allotted 140 acres of land near Nellore city for construction of its main campus.
SVU Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhakara Rao formally handed over the administrative reins of the centre to his VSU counterpart C. Visweswara Rao here on Thursday, according to G.O. No.1 dated Jan 1, 2011.
The official transfer of this centre, taking effect from Apr 1, has made the process ‘total', as it follows the takeover of 127 colleges situated in Nellore district, hitherto affiliated to SVU.
Prof. Visweswara Rao, who was visibly jubilant, said the transfer would help empowerment of rural youth by creating new opportunities. The courses presently offered were in tandem with the region's resource potential and locally available skill sets, he said. Prof. Prabhakara Rao recalled the varsity's long association with the PG Centre.
VSU Registrar V.Narayana Reddy said it would further strengthen the hands of the nascent varsity. Explaining Nellore's emergence as an industrial hub with leather units, Apparel Park, Apache footwear unit, steel and power plants, he said it would be a boon to qualified local youth.
SVU Rector K.Ratnaiah, Registrar J.Pratap Reddy and VSU Dean (College Development Council) T.Sudha were present.
