Harry S Truman Scholarship is a one of the prestigious scholarships which is given to the college juniors for their leadership skills. Seven Indian-American students are selected for the Truman Scholarship for displaying their excellent leadership qualities and the finalist will be interviewed by the foundation regional review panel from 3rd March 2017 to 7th April 2017. On 21st April 2017, scholars will be announced.
A rigorous application process which involves essays, recommendations and interviews will be followed and each 55 to 60 candidates are named Truman Scholars. The students receive the awards on the basis of their records of leadership, public service and academic achievement. All the students will compete for the prestigious awards, which is worth of USD 30,000 for the graduate study. As per the sources, foundation reviewed 768 potential scholars from 315 institutions before settling on the 199 students from 136 institutions.

The Truman Scholarship Foundation was established by Congress in 1975 as the federal memorial to President Harry S Truman. Each year, a selection committee reviews applications from more than 600 nominees for the Truman Foundation in Washington.
