Campus Life: The experience of freshers in college would be studded with immense variety of emotions apart from a sense of excitement. Just remember what happened to Rancho & Co in the movie “3 Idiots!”. Although quite unlike it, the mere "first day away from home" feeling does engulf you. That is to say, until you find a mate who, more often than not is bound to be abound for life! We would indeed feel rather perplexed. "A Home away from home" read the post. Gone were the days when good old-mommy used to feed us at home! As slowly but steadily relationships were made and acquaintances became friends, life appeared a bit brighter. The after-effects of the overrated Board examinations and holidays marred by Entrance-exams began to wear off. It’s pretty definite that suddenly and inevitably it happened! So hard is it to comprehend the passage of time. The timetable of the first internal examination would be announced. Oh Gosh! I couldn't but remember the famous line "If Winter comes, can spring be far behind?", but still the situation demanded a metaphorically converse statement. The following days would be undoubtedly terrific. “The third law of Newton” seemed a lot more evident. Such situations do bring out the nocturnal behavior in you! After the ordeal ended, and normality restored, things seemed as great as ever! The night-shows that lasted beyond midnight, the seemingly everlasting and engaging chit-chat, the loudest form of music that a human-ear could endure, and what not! Barring a few obnoxious beings. All was well as in your “cup of tea”. Perhaps after a semester, things would be finally settled to the extent that you would be able to showcase your ideologies pertaining to college life. Life in a hostel, as might already be evident is rather a unique experience. A person, who might have never faced the outside world is suddenly made to face an alien scenario. The company that you make, the more important decisions, and such might be instrumental in carving out your future. The seed that falls in the appropriate place and at the right time prospers whilst the others wither. Finally, life at a hostel might just be thought of as a make or break period of life. But having said that, it is imperative to mention that the glory of the mighty Sun is evident at dawn whither the blossoming flowers and misty-green grass adds flavors.
Faculty: As part of this group, I traveled to various schools, many of them outside of Illinois, to study student issues. Our objective was to gain a better understanding of how programs could be developed to best solve student needs. I have frequently used my creativity to bring a lot of entrepreneurial ideas to life. I started a group called One Mic, an organization where friends, young adults, artists and older adults come to discuss their deepest and most inspirational ideas. Participants are free to express themselves both verbally and artistically. My desire is to reach toward a higher standard and prove to myself that I have the talent and skills to realize my dreams, while also setting a positive example for those that come behind me.
Placements: "I thoroughly enjoyed my internship this summer and now have very valuable experience under my belt. I know this will help when looking for jobs and needing references. I was dreading it in the beginning, but now I am so happy it was required. As much as the curriculum changes, I hope that class remains constant." "We all know that practical experience is the best, and internships give students that hands-on experience they need. I feel that quality internships are essential to developinging key skills that you can't get in a classroom. Skills such as multitasking, communicating, learning to deal with diversity, and dealing with deadlines are different when you are working for someone else, not yourself like you do in college. Internships are also a great way to network with people in the industry. My boss and co-workers were great about giving me contacts and referring me to open positions in the industry."
