AP to hold teacher's test in August

The state government has decided to conduct the first-ever `Teacher Eligibility Test' in August.
It has directed all the schools including those in the private sector to appoint only those candidates as teachers who qualify in TET from this year irrespective of their education qualifications like B.Ed, D.Ed etc., as per the directions of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

Though NCTE issued a notification in August 2010 making TET mandatory the state has been dilly-dallying over its implementation since then.

However, after the NCTE expressed its resentment over the delay in conducting the TET, the state decided to conduct the test twice in a year during June/ July and December/January every year.

“TET has been introduced nationally to bring uniformity in teaching standards. It will also serve as a benchmark while appointing teachers in government and private schools,“ said Mr D.
Sambasiva Rao, principal secretary, secondary education. He said teachers who were appointed before NCTE notification on August 23, 2010 by DSC are exempted from appearing for TET.

However, teachers working in private schools whose appointments were not approved by competent authority in government are not exempted from TET.

Such teachers of private unaided school can appear for TET. In the case of non approved teachers working in private schools, they should invariably appear for TET conducted by the state government only.
