Jammers, bio-metric system at EAMCET centres likely

KADAPA: Jammers are likely to be installed at the EAMCET examination centres to make cellphones non-functional. It is also proposed to introduce the bio-metric system to ascertain that the identity of candidates who write the examination matches with those participating in counselling.

A decision on these issues will be taken at Hyderabad on May 14, according to EAMCET Kadapa Regional Coordinator Jayachandra Reddy.

The number of Intermediate passed candidates appearing for EAMCET 2011, slated on May 22, for engineering seats in Kadapa district fell to 7,000 from 8,700 last year and in contrast those aspiring for medicine seats increased to 1,600 compared to 1,200 last year, Prof. Jayachandra Reddy told The Hindu.

Hall tickets were dispatched to the applicants today and they would reach them within the next three days, he said. Applicants who do not receive the hall tickets by May 15, can download the hall tickets from the website www.eamcet.com from May 16, Prof. Jayachandra Reddy said. EAMCET engineering stream applicants will appear for the written test from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 22 and those for medicine stream will take the test between 2.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. the same day. Candidates will not be allowed to write the examination even if they report late by even one minute, the coordinator said. Thirteen centres had been established for engineering and two for medicine in Kadapa city, he said, adding that two observers would be posted for every 400 applicants besides revenue officials to be deputed by the district administration. The candidates and invigilators have been barred from carrying cellphones to the examination centres. Only chief superintendents can possess cellphones in the examination centres as per rules.

The APSRTC authorities have been requested to ply additional services on May 22 for the benefit of candidates, Prof. Jayachandra Reddy said. APTransco officials have promised to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the EAMCET exam.
