IAT 2026 Counselling

IAT Counselling Process 2026

The counselling process for IAT 2026 admission to Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) is a critical phase where candidates who have qualified the IAT 2026 examination will get allotted seats based on their merit and preferences. The procedure is conducted entirely online, ensuring transparency, ease of access, and prompt communication.

Overview of IAT 2026 Counselling Process

The IAT 2026 counselling process will involve multiple rounds of seat allocation based on the ranks obtained in IAT 2026 and seat availability across IISER campuses and programs. Candidates must actively participate in the IAT 2026 counselling, download offer letters, pay seat acceptance fees, and confirm their admission by completing document verification.

Stepwise IAT 2026 Counselling Procedure

  • Declaration of IAT Results: After evaluation, candidates receive their scores and ranks on the official IISER website. The rank list serves as the basis for the counselling process.
  • First Round Seat Allotment List: An allotment list is published displaying the roll numbers of the candidates allotted seats based on merit, category, and choice preferences.
  • Downloading Offer Letter: Candidates who find their roll numbers in the allotment list must log into the counselling portal and download their official offer letters, which include details such as allotted IISER, program, and deadlines for fee payment.
  • Seat Acceptance Fee Payment (SAF): To confirm the allotted seat, candidates must pay the Seat Acceptance Fee online within the stipulated deadline. Not paying the SAF leads to forfeiture of the seat.
  • Freezing or Floating Seat Option: Candidates can choose to freeze their allotted seat, which means they accept the current allotment and will not be considered for higher preference seats in subsequent rounds. Alternatively, they may float, i.e., opt to participate in the next round to try for a seat in a higher-preference IISER or program.
  • Subsequent Rounds of Counselling: Second and later rounds take place for reallocation of seats vacated by candidates who rejected or floated their seats. Updated allotment lists follow the same procedure as the first round.
  • Reporting to Allotted IISER: Candidates who confirm their admission after the final counselling round must report to their respective IISER along with original documents for verification and completion of admission formalities.

Important Features

  • The entire counselling is online and no physical presence is required until admission confirmation at the institute.
  • Seat allotment strictly follows merit rank and category reservation policies as per Government of India norms.
  • Offer letters and counselling schedules are all accessible on the candidate’s registration portal.
  • Deadlines for fee payment and document submission are final; extensions are not usually granted.
  • Candidates are encouraged to fill out preferences carefully during application and subsequent counselling phases to maximize chances of getting a preferred seat.

FAQs

Q1. How will candidates know if they have been allotted a seat in IAT 2026 counselling?

Ans. Candidates must check the official IISER counselling portal for allotment lists. If their roll number appears, they have been allotted a seat and can download the offer letter from the portal.

Q2. What is the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) in IISER counselling?

Ans. The SAF is a fee candidates pay online to confirm acceptance of the allotted seat. Failure to pay the SAF by the deadline results in cancellation of the seat offer.

Q3. What does freezing or floating a seat mean in the counselling process?

Ans. Freezing means the candidate accepts the allotted seat as final and will not be considered for improved options. Floating means the candidate retains the option to participate in subsequent rounds for a potentially higher preference seat.

Q4. Is physical presence required during the IISER counselling process?

Ans. No, the entire counselling and seat allotment process is conducted online. Physical reporting is only required after final admission confirmation for document verification.

Q5. What documents must be submitted for final admission after counselling?

Ans. Candidates are required to submit original academic certificates (Class XII mark sheets), category and domicile certificates (if applicable), identity proof, and any other documents specified in the offer letter for document verification.
