JIPMER PG 2026 Counselling

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, does not host a standalone entrance test or a separate counselling portal for its postgraduate medical programs (MD/MS/MDS/Integrated 6-year M.Ch). Instead, admissions are fully channelized through the centralized INI-CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) administered by AIIMS, New Delhi. For the landmark July 2026 session, the nationwide INI-CET was conducted on May 17, 2026, with the results declared shortly after on May 23, 2026, setting the stage for the centralized online seat allocation rounds managed on the AIIMS exams portal.

Key Stages of JIPMER PG 2026 Counselling Process

  1. Online Registration: Candidates shortlisted based on their INI CET/INI SS exam scores must first register for counselling on the official MCC portal – nic.in or aiimsexams.ac.in. This involves entering personal and academic details, uploading essential documents, and paying a counselling fee (which may range from INR 1,000 to INR 5,000 depending on the category).
  2. Choice Filling and Locking: After successful registration, candidates must fill and lock their choices for courses and preferred institutions (such as JIPMER Puducherry, Karaikal, etc.). Choices can be modified up until the locking deadline. The seat matrix, specifying available seats per category, is released before this step to guide decision-making.
  3. Seat Allotment Rounds: The MCC conducts multiple seat allocation rounds (usually three, followed by mop-up and stray vacancy rounds). Seat allotment is based on a candidate’s entrance rank, reservation status, choices filled, and seat availability. Allotment results are published online, and candidates can download their seat allotment letters from the portal.
  4. Document Verification: Candidates allotted seats must submit to document verification. Required documents include admit card, rank and admission letters, MBBS/BDS/provisional degree certificates, internship certificate, mark sheets, caste/category certificates, medical council registration, and passport-size photographs.
  5. Reporting & Final Admission: Once verification is successful, candidates must physically report (or follow specified reporting procedures) to the allotted JIPMER campus within stipulated deadlines. Final admission involves payment of fees, medical examination, and submission of original documents. Failure to report results in seat forfeiture, and the seat is forwarded to the next eligible candidate in subsequent rounds.

Important Points to Remember

  • Counselling Schedule: The process typically starts in December 2025 for the January session and June 2026 for the July session. Exact schedules are announced on official portals.
  • Allotment Rules: Candidates must meet the cut-off percentile and eligibility criteria specific to the course and category.
  • Multiple Rounds: Unfilled seats are carried forward to further rounds or the mop-up round.

Counselling & Admission Fees

  • Counselling Registration Fee: There is no distinct registration fee levied by AIIMS to participate in the online choice-filling system.
  • Security Deposit / Seat Acceptance Fee: If you are allocated a seat and select Option 1 or Option 2, you must pay a mandatory security deposit of Rs.3,00,000 online (as outlined in the AIIMS seat allocation mandates) to secure your allotment before reporting.
  • JIPMER Institute Fee: Upon physical validation of parameters, a structural fee of approximately Rs.15,000–Rs.20,000 (covering admission, tuition, and learning resources) is paid directly to JIPMER.

Documents Required for Physical Reporting

A single missing piece can lead to an immediate revocation of your seat. Ensure you possess the original certificates alongside two full sets of self-attested photocopies:

    • INI-CET 2026 Rank Card / Score Letter and Official Admit Card
    • Online Seat Acceptance Offer Letter (System-generated)
    • MBBS Degree Certificate / Provisional Passing Certificate
    • Detailed Marksheets of all MBBS Professional Examinations
    • Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship Completion Certificate (Mandatory benchmark date applies)
    • Permanent or Provisional Medical Registration Certificate issued by MCI/NMC or State Medical Council
    • Class 10 Certificate / Birth Certificate (as proof of age)
    • Valid Category Certificate (OBC-NCL/EWS/SC/ST) if claiming relaxation.

JIPMER PG Counselling FAQs

Q1: Can I apply for JIPMER PG seats using my NEET PG scorecard?

A: No. Admission to MD, MS, and MDS courses at JIPMER Puducherry is exclusively determined by your merit ranking in the INI-CET examination. NEET PG scores are not valid or recognized for these seats.

Q2: What happens if I choose Option 2 (Accept with Upgrade) but fail to secure a seat in Round 2?

A: If you are not upgraded during the subsequent cycle, your initial Round 1 seat allocation at JIPMER remains completely safe and locked under your name, provided you fulfilled the initial reporting obligations.

Q3: Is the JIPMER Institutional Preference internal quota filled via the same portal?

A: Yes. Candidates eligible under the JIPMER Internal Candidate roster are mapped out using their INI-CET ranks within the centralized choice-filling dashboard, provided they declared their institute credentials during the basic registration layout.

Q4: What are the consequences of not reporting to JIPMER after selecting an acceptance option?

A: Failing to physically report to the JIPMER Puducherry campus within the strict round deadline will lead to an immediate cancellation of your allocated seat. Furthermore, you will be disqualified from participating in any remaining online seat allocation rounds.

Q5: Can someone else report on my behalf for the document verification segment?

A: No. The physical verification phase demands the candidate's personal presence at the JIPMER campus. Biometric tracking and signature cross-verifications are executed on the spot prior to formal admission confirmation.
