Ambli Dodda Bharamappa (A.D.B.) First Grade College, Harapanahalli, was established in 1972 by the Veerasaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha (V.V. Sangha), Ballari—a pioneering educational organization committed to promoting learning in North Karnataka.Located in a historically significant area where the fort of Raja Somashekara Nayaka once stood, the college was set up in an ideal rural setting under the aegis of V.V. Sangha, Ballari. The institution came into existence through the generous donation of ?1,00,000 by the late Sri Ambli Mallappa and the gift of 6.93 acres of land, including a ready building basement, by Sri Seshaji Hastimal Jain. The founding of the college was made possible by the tireless efforts of visionary leaders of V.V. Sangha—Sri Allum Karibasappa, Sri N. Thippanna, and Sri Mariyappa—along with prominent figures from Harapanahalli such as Sri T.M. Gangadharaiah, Sri K. Divakara, Sri Katti Seturamachar, Sri Arundi Ningappa, Sri G. Kotrappa, Sri Bidri Virupakshappa, Sri Ambli Shivashankarappa, Sri Kotreshappa, Sri K. Malkappa, and other dedicated citizens. Their commitment to advancing higher education for the youth of Harapanahalli and surrounding villages culminated in the founding of this institution. The college was formally inaugurated and blessed by the esteemed Sri S. Nijalingappa, former Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The college began with a modest enrollment of 45 students in B.A. and B.Sc. programs, affiliated with Karnataka University, Dharwad. Initially, it operated with five classrooms, three laboratories, and a small library. As student numbers grew, so did the need for better infrastructure. With support from V.V. Sangha and financial assistance from the University Grants Commission (UGC), the college expanded steadily. Today, the college offers 10 courses under three programmes, viz. B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. The college has excellent infrastructure for the comprehensive growth of students, including 28 classrooms, a well-stocked library, sports facilities, ICT-enabled classrooms and fully equipped laboratories. The college also has the additional facilities of NSS, NCC, collaborating and making MoUs with various esteemed institutions and industries to facilitate the overall development of students.Since 1975, both student enrollment and faculty strength have increased significantly. The institution's growth has been fueled by the unwavering dedication of its management, faculty, and staff.
