Himachal Pradesh University was established on 22nd July 1970 by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh, addressing the needs and aspirations of the Union Territory, which achieved full statehood on 25th January 1971. It is the only multi-faculty residential and affiliating university in the state, offering higher education to urban, rural, and tribal areas through formal and distance learning modes.
The Department of Laws was founded in 1970 alongside the university's establishment. It was relocated to the university campus in 1984 and moved to its building in 1993. The department offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in law, including LLB, LLM, and PhD programs. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to providing legal education, training, and research, benefiting students pursuing careers in law.
