The District Hospital, Vizianagaram has been established under the control of A.P. Vaidya Vidhana Parishad in the year 1988 and has been functioning since then providing Medical and Health services to the citizen of the District as well as the surrounding mandals of the neighboring Districts and Orissa State.The Hospital initially had bed strength of 100 beds and expanded and renovated under Andhra Pradesh First Referral Health Systems Project aided by the World Bank and Bed Strength was increased to 200 beds and subsequently the bed strength was raised to 400 beds.Consequent to the sanctioning of establishing Government Medical College at Vizianagaram, the District Hospital, Vizianagaram under the control of A.P. Vaidya Vidhana Parishad has been upgraded as Teaching Hospital, Government General Hospital, Vizianagaram sinceThe Govt. General Hospital has 2 separate buildings to provide patient care. The main hospital in Cantonment area and MCH Hospital (Gosha Hospital) is 6 km away from the main hospital.The site area of the GGH Hospital BUILDING is 17.027 Acres; the plinth area of the main hospital building is 7,85,543 Sqft.
