The most notable support comes from the Pudhumai Penn Scheme, which specifically rewards students from government schools.
This is the flagship scheme for women's education in Tamil Nadu.
Benefit: Rs.1,000 per month credited directly to the student's bank account.
Eligibility: Must be a female student who studied in Government Schools from Class 6 to Class 12.
No Income Limit: This is a merit-cum-enrollment incentive, not based on family income.
Students from Government-aided schools in Tamil medium (under the 7.5% reservation) are also eligible.
First Graduate Scholarship: If you are the first person in your family to graduate, the state government provides a tuition fee waiver, regardless of community, provided you meet the income criteria (usually Rs.2.5 Lakhs).
Higher Education Special Scholarship: For SC/ST/SCC students staying in hostels, an additional grant of Rs.7,500 to Rs.8,000 per year is provided for UG and PG courses.
