Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) Admissions Details

Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) Application/Admission Process

The Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS), located in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, is an autonomous super-specialty hospital and deemed-to-be-university established by the Government of NCT of Delhi. Recognized as a global center of excellence for hepatobiliary, renal, and organ transplant medicine, ILBS offers specialized post-doctoral, doctoral, and post-graduate certificate programs. The admission framework is structured to ensure that only top-tier medical scientists, clinicians, and researchers are selected for its rigorous tracks.

Admission Process

The selection system at ILBS is strictly performance-oriented, reflecting the advanced nature of its medical and research tracks:

  • Super-Specialty Programs (DM / M.Ch / DNB): Admissions to these prestigious degrees are conducted centrally via the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test for Super Specialty courses (NEET SS), followed by centralized counseling managed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
  • Doctoral (Ph.D.) and Post-Doctoral Certificate Courses (PDCC): Candidates must clear the computer-based or written institutional entrance examination conducted by ILBS, featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs), followed by an intensive offline personal interview and departmental assessment. Applicants possessing valid national fellowships like CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, or GATE may be exempted from the written test and invited directly for the personal interview round.
  • Sc. Nursing and Fellowships: Selection is determined by an institute-level written entrance test consisting of objective-type questions, followed by document verification and clinical panel evaluations.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet specific academic and professional benchmarks depending on the target course tier:

  • DM and M.Ch Programs: Must possess a recognized postgraduate medical degree (MD, MS, DNB) in the relevant clinical discipline from an institution recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), alongside a qualifying percentile in NEET SS.
  • D. Programs (Biomedical/Life Sciences): Requires a Master’s degree (M.Sc., M.Tech, M.Pharm, MVSc, or equivalent professional medical/dental degree) with a minimum aggregate score of 60% marks (or equivalent grade). For Ph.D. in Nursing, candidates need an M.Sc. Nursing degree with relevant clinical or teaching experience.
  • PDCC and Fellowships: Must hold a terminal degree such as MD, MS, DM, M.Ch, or DNB in the designated medical specialty with active registration under the State Medical Council or National Medical Commission.
  • Sc. Nursing: Must hold a B.Sc. Nursing (4-year) or Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree with at least 55% aggregate marks and a mandatory minimum of one year of post-qualification clinical experience in a recognized 100+ bedded hospital or nursing institution.

Application Fees

The non-refundable application processing charges vary according to the level of the program and must be paid securely through online gateways or designated payment portals during registration:

  • PDCC and Senior Fellowship Programs: INR 5,000
  • D. and M.Sc. Programs: INR 1,000
  • Super-Specialty Courses (DM/M.Ch): Governed directly by standard National Board of Examinations (NBE) / MCC guidelines during NEET SS registration.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. What is the primary entrance channel for securing admission to DM and M.Ch programs at ILBS?

Ans: Admissions to all super-specialty DM and M.Ch courses at ILBS are strictly carried out through the national-level NEET SS examination, followed by joint counseling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

Q2. Are candidates with national fellowships exempted from the written entrance exam for Ph.D. tracks?

Ans: Yes. Applicants who have successfully qualified for national-level fellowships with fellowship support—such as UGC-NET JRF, CSIR-NET JRF, DBT-JRF, or ICMR-JRF—are typically exempted from the written entrance test and are fast-tracked directly to the departmental assessment and interview round.

Q3. Is there any mandatory service or security bond required upon selection?

Ans: Yes. For specific post-doctoral certificate courses (PDCC) and advanced fellowships, candidates must submit a security bond executed on a non-judicial stamp paper. This bond is held as a guarantee for program completion and is refunded or discharged successfully once the full course tenure is completed.

Q4. Can applicants use mobile phones or tablets to complete the online admission registration?

Ans: No. The institute explicitly instructs applicants to fill out online forms strictly using a desktop computer or laptop to prevent technical formatting errors or data upload failures during submission.

Q5. What clinical experience is mandatory for enrolling in the M.Sc. Nursing program?

Ans: Candidates applying for M.Sc. Nursing must possess a minimum of one year of post-qualification work experience gathered in a registered hospital with 100 or more beds, a recognized teaching hospital, or an accredited school/college of nursing, alongside active registration with a state nursing council.
