National Institute of Design (NID) Scholarships & Eligibility

The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad does not provide its own institutional scholarships. However, students enrolled at NID Ahmedabad can access a range of scholarships offered by the central and state governments, as well as some merit-based and need-based financial aid options facilitated by the institute.

Following is the list of some of the scholarships that can be availed by the students with the help of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students:

  • For students above the 80th percentile in their 12th standard exams.
  • Family income should not exceed Rs.4.5 LPA.
  • Not available to students already availing other scholarships.

Saksham Scholarship Scheme for Specially-Abled Students: For students with disabilities pursuing technical education.

Post Graduate Scholarship for Single Girl Child: For single girl children pursuing post-graduation.

Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme for North Eastern Region: For students from the North Eastern states of India.

Other State Government Scholarships:

Students are eligible for various state-specific schemes, depending on their domicile and category.

NID’s Own Financial Aid and Freeship:

NID Freeship Scholarship

  • NID offers a limited number of freeship scholarships to meritorious and financially needy students.
  • The details and application process are announced around August–September each academic year, after admissions are complete.
  • The amount and exact eligibility criteria are shared at the time of announcement.

Merit-Based Scholarships:

  • Some scholarships are awarded to students with the highest open rank in NID admissions (rank 60 or above), with an amount of ?50,000 for newly admitted students.
  • For second-year students, the top two students based on AGPA receive ?50,000 and ?30,000, respectively.
  • Additional merit-cum-means scholarships may be available, with amounts and criteria varying annually.
  • NID Ahmedabad offers a fellowship for full-time PhD candidates.
  • Covers stipend for living expenses, tuition fees, and research-related costs.
  • Fellowship is available for three years, extendable up to five years (funding limited to three years).

Application Process:

  • Students must apply for government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal or respective state portals.
  • For NID’s freeship and merit scholarships, notifications and application details are provided by the institute after admission, typically in August–September.
