Admission to Pabitra Mohan Institute of Technology (PMIT), Talcher, is primarily conducted through the state-level counseling process organized by the Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET), Odisha, and the State Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (SCTE & VT).

Admission Process

  1. Online Registration (DET Odisha): Prospective students must apply through the Diploma Entrance Test (DET) Odisha web portal. This is the official centralized system for admissions into polytechnics across the state.

  2. Merit-Based Selection: Admissions are determined based on the merit of the candidate. Usually, admission is based on the marks secured in the 10th standard (HSC) or equivalent examination.

  3. Counseling & Seat Allotment:

    • Candidates must register on the DET portal, fill out their college and course preferences, and pay the registration fee.

    • The state authority conducts multiple rounds of online counseling and seat allotment.

    • Once a seat is allotted to PMIT, candidates are required to download their allotment letter.

  4. Reporting to the Institute: After seat confirmation, candidates must report to the PMIT campus with the allotment letter and required documents for physical verification and payment of admission fees.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10th standard (HSC/Matriculation) examination from the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, or any other equivalent board recognized by the SCTE & VT, Odisha.

  • Subject Requirements: Applicants must have passed in Mathematics, Science, and English at the 10th-grade level.

  • Age Limit: Candidates should generally meet the minimum age requirements set by the state authorities (usually 14–15 years at the time of admission).
