University of Mysore is recognized as a leading institute, consistently achieving high rankings from various national ranking agencies. According to the NIRF 2025, it holds the 71st position in the University category and the 20th among State Public Universities. Factors contributing to its esteemed rankings include a strong academic reputation, dedicated faculty, and well-developed infrastructure.

NIRF Ranking 2025:

University of Mysore has achieved a respectable ranking in the NIRF's 'Overall' category, reflecting its strong performance in several critical areas, including Quality of Education, Impactful Research, Faculty Expertise, and Overall Institutional Management. However, a trend of decreasing rank has been observed over the years. Specifically, in 2025, the university fell 15 places to achieve the #101 rank in the 'Overall' category according to the NIRF rankings.

Times Higher Education Ranking 2026

University of Mysore has achieved commendable rankings from Times Higher Education within the 'Overall' category. In its 2025 rankings, the university maintains a strong position, rated based on parameters such as Teaching, Graduation Outcomes, Inclusivity, and Research. Its rank remains at #1501, consistent with the previous year's ranking in the 'Overall' category.

 Other Recognitions:

  • University of Mysore was the first University in the State that was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the year 2000 with Five Stars Status.
  • Second cycle of re-accreditation by NAAC in 2006 with A+ Level.
  • Third -time accredited by NAAC with a score of 3.47 on a 4 -point scale at A+, for the 4th cycle of accreditation with A Grade
  • Recognized by Govt. of India  as an “Institution of Excellence (IOE)” with  a grant of Rs. 100 crores (in 2008)
  • (Recognized as University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) in 2009 by UGC with a grant of 50 crores in (2012)
  • Recognized Centre of Excellence in Potential for Excellence in a Particular Area (CPEPA) and was awarded grant of Rs. 9.5 crores which is being renewed in 2016
  • Identified as one of the top 20 universities in Scientific publications and was awarded Rs.9.00 Crore under PURSE Scheme, and renewed for 2nd Phase in 2016 awarded 8.5 crore. 
  • Identified by Government of Karnataka (2009) as Innovation University.
